Special to The Standard
NORTH DURHAM: With so much rain on the soccer fields, many games were postponed throughout Durham Region this past week, but there were still some of our North Durham United teams in action with league play.
The U13B continued to build on their perfect record, with a 3-1 win over Ajax. Ryan I, Matthew G and Jack D found the net.
The U13G also had a positive result against Kawartha, coming away with a 5-2 rout of their rivals from the east. Emily F had a couple of goals, with singles coming from Jessica P, Jennifer W, and Avery F.
Coach Beth Murray's U14G have started the season strongly, including a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Cavan this past week. Paige M and Jessica T provided the goals needed to secure the three points.
Tournament play was going on this weekend, with the U15G competing in Peterborough. Although the final scores weren't enough to get the team into the finals, they worked hard, as usual, and enjoyed themselves.
The U17B, managed with the help of the incomparable Lisa Hoover when in Stratford for a tournament, which the team and parents like to make an annual event. The squad, which is a majority of 15 and 16 year olds mixed in with a couple of 17 year old players, were slotted into the U18 division. Despite some of the NDUFC players going up against opponents two and three years older, the boys came away with points in a couple of games, kept every match close, and were able to hang in physically with all the other clubs.
The players represented the club and community with impeccable behaviour on and off the field, well done boys.
I didn't catch the TFC loss to New England last week, snapping their unbeaten streak, but playing without Bradley and Altidore put them behind the eight-ball right from the start.
