The first thing I would like to do this week is send a Big Loud Shout-out on the safe arrival of our baby granddaughter, Abigail Sylvia Marie Le Saux, born on September 12th, at 12:08 p.m. She was born to Phillip and Victoria, weighing in at 6 lbs 6 ozs. Congrats to the very proud parents, and of course to the grandparents as well.
Congratulations also go out to Charles Le Saux-Ball for obtaining his G-2 last week.

Well here it came, Labour day, and all the children are getting ready for school again, some just starting, and some going into the very last year. Either way, please keep a eye out as there will be more congested traffic then usual, and the little children will be so excited.
Scugog Island United Church will be Celebrating it's 150th Anniversary of providing gospel service to the Island. The Service will be held in October, and the Congregation is excited to Announce that Rev. Frazer Lacey will be in pulpit on this occasion.

The Summer Students at MSIFN, had a good couple of days before their employment was over, starting with a good bye luncheon. The next day was a fun day, and on Friday they had a teaching on harvesting wild rice. While they were out in the canoes, Charles and his Father, Fred, stayed back on shore making rice baskets.

It all begins at noon on Saturday the 25th, and the day will end with spectacular fire works.

So many Chi' Meegwetch to everyone involved in planning and organizing every detail big or small for making Pow Wow such a success. The weather was co-operative on Saturday for the many dancers and drummers. Vendors were doing quite the sales. Each morning started off with Sunrise ceremony followed by breakfast. Grand Entry followed, at 12 noon and the festivities, began. at around 5:30 p.m. There was a big feast for the guest drummers and dancers.
The Summer Students at the First Nation have settled into their positions and getting comfortable.

The Aboriginal Day Celebrations were a great hit, the day and the weather was good, at the end of the day supper was Indian Tacos, and scone dogs, of course there was hamburgers etc. The day ended with a spectacular fireworks display. This year the technician was Shawn Larocque who is local, it is nice to support local people.
Now the next event will be the Pow Wow being held from July 21st to 2nd. Each day begins with a sunrise ceremony, followed by breakfast. Women are asked to wear long skirts. The Pow Wow begins at 12 noon, with grand entry. People are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. There are many vendors selling their handy work. Also there will be food vendors where an Indian Taco can be experienced, yum!
Call to worship on Father's Day was called by the Rev. Michelle Hofman. A warm greeting went out to all.

Due to the weather, Sunday Church Service was Cancelled. Call to worship will resume next week.
Also due to weather, the offices on the First Nation were also closed and school buses were cancelled. The weather has been the talk of day! Hopefully everyone has made it through the ice storm safely.
The next activities to happen at the Health and Resource Centre will be the annual Native Arts & Craft Show and sale. Many vendors will be out with their many Arts/Crafts and it is always nice to grab a bite for lunch, usually Indian Taco can be found and enjoyed. There will be free admission and free door prize tickets. 50/50 and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Everyone is welcome to come on April 28th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Door prizes will be given every hour on the hour, raffles and 50/50, take place around 3:30 p.m. It will be located at 22600 Island Rd., 1 km north of the Casino on your left hand side. There is lots of parking.

The month of April is full of activity here at the First Nation, on April 7th, 2018 will be the Annual Spring Native Drum social. 11:30 a.m. will be the pot luck please bring your favourite dish. 1:00 p.m. the social drumming and dancing will begin. There will door prizes, spot dances, a 50/50 draw, and a raffle draw. Honorarium for the first five registered drums and travel money for dancers in regalia. Everyone is welcome. April 28th is the 14th Annual Native Arts & Crafts Show and Sale, beginning at 10:00 a.m. running through to 4:00 p.m. There will be refreshments, free door prizes, 50/50 draws, and a raffle. There is free admission for all of this.
