UXBRIDGE: The therapeutic properties of salt therapy has been a part of European cultures for thousands of years. Now, the same healing effects can be found in Uxbridge.
Salt Life Cave and Spa, located in the heart of downtown Uxbridge, is a therapy centre providing Halotherapy for clients with various respiratory problems. A Salt Cave is a man-made replica of an underground, natural salt cave.
Salt Life Cave and Spa are having their Grand Opening on Wednesday, July 13, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Come and check out this truly unique experience, exclusive to Uxbridge. They are located at 16 Brock St. West, next to the bakery.
Jerri Wright and Kevin Wright took a trip to a similar Salt Cave in Niagara, and Jerri was instantly hooked. That is when she knew she wanted to start her own Salt Cave Spa. She claims that breathing in the salt from the cave can improve respiratory problems, including allergies and even asthma, offer stress relief, and help with the common cold.
Halotherapy, is derived from the Greek word “helo”, meaning “salt.” The primary factor in action at Salt Life Cave and Spa, is dry salt aerosol. The air inside their facility is infused with various minerals, to aid in the treatment of a variety of disorders.
Minerals found in the air at Salt Life Cave and Spa include: calcium, iodine, iron, sodium, and bromine. According to representatives of the Spa, these minerals all aid the human body in different ways, from lowering blood pressure, to improving muscle strength. “Salt aerosol cleanses human airways, like a toothbrush cleans teeth. It alleviates bronchial inflammation, removes pathogen agents (airborne pollen).”
According to Kevin Wright, the salt used during the sessions is imported from Poland, where salt therapy has been used as a form of medicine for over 50 years.
Other services offered at Salt Life Cave and Spa include: an infrared sauna, and a Himalayan Foot Detox, using pink Himalayan salt blocks. They hope to soon offer message therapy, as well.
