SCUGOG: Local residents can get freezin’ for a reason next month, when the 9th annual Polar Plunge returns to Port Perry.
Hosted by the Auxiliary to Lakeridge Health Port Perry, this year’s edition of the icy dip in Lake Scugog on Saturday, Feb. 6 promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
The event will take place in Palmer Park at 2 p.m. as part of Feb Fest celebrations in downtown Port Perry.
Proceeds from the plunge will benefit the Auxiliary’s $350,000 commitment to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation’s ‘Your Hospital, Your Future’ campaign.
Using a pledge sheet, available by contacting Auxiliary volunteers, plungers can begin collecting their funds and assembling their teams right away. Teams are welcome as well as individuals! Team members will all plunge together, so gather your friends, family, colleagues or neighbours and sign-up together. A minimum $100 pledge per person for groups of four or more is required. Individual Plungers are required to raise a minimum of $200 in pledges, and those wishing to plunge with a partner are asked to let the committee know when they sign up. As well, crazy costumes are not mandatory, but are encouraged to add to the frigid festivities.
On the day of the event, the registration tent opens at 1 p.m., with the plunge taking place an hour later. Following the plunge into the frigid waters, participants will be able to warm up in hot tubs, with food and awards to follow.
Spectators who may have cold feet can sponsor a plunger and gather on the shores of Lake Scugog on Feb. 6 to cheer on the plungers.
Pledge and sign-up sheets are available by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning Ruth at 905-985-6232 to sign up.
