SCUGOG: 21 year-old Port Perry native Chad Houthuys has recently joined the experienced sales team at Stouffville Hyundai Equus.
Mr. Houthuys was hired by the company in July, shortly after he finished a two year business program at Fanshawe College.
“I really appreciate how my boss gave me the opportunity, right out of school, to learn the ropes, and he has been a great mentor,” Mr. Houthuys said. “It’s a great place to start in the industry as the staff has been working with me. They know that I am not an expert, and they have been giving me the right tools and tips to succeed.”
Mr. Houthuys has lived his entire life in Port Perry. He spent his elementary school years at R.H. Cornish Public School and was also taught at Port Perry High School. He said his favourite part about the area is the community aspect.
“I like how it is a small town feel and everyone is like your neighbour. I also like how you can trust everyone there, as opposed to the big city,” he said.
Mr. Houthuys said growing up in Port Perry also helped shape his personality.
“I’ve always had the small town feel. Being nice to people, going out of my way to help people.”
He also added he hopes to bring that small town attitude to his job as a sales representative.
“You can take the kid out of Port Perry, but you can’t take Port Perry out of the kid,” he said.
In 2011, Mr. Houthuys coached an atom house league division team for the Port Perry Minor Hockey Association.
“It was great. I played in Port Perry Minor Hockey growing up, and [coaching] gave me a chance to give back to the sport,” he said.
When he is not working at the dealership, Mr. Houthuys can be found at Snap Fitness, working out.
He feels he brings an extensive knowledge of the products, as well as a focus on customer service to the table. Stouffville Hyundai is located at 67 Automall Blvd.
